Bluejays Come Up Short Against Augustana

ELMHURST, Ill. – Four Bluejays reached double figures in scoring, but it wasn't enough as the Elmhurst women's basketball team suffered a 70-64 loss to Augustana College.
 
Elmhurst (5-8, 1-3 CCIW) led 13-10 after one quarter but Augustana (9-5, 3-2 CCIW) cut the deficit down to one at the half (25-24). Elmhurst led for most of the third quarter before the Vikings pulled even at 48-48 to enter the fourth quarter.

Augustana took control in the fourth quarter, opening with a 10-2 run to take a 58-50 lead midway through the quarter. Elmhurst trailed by eight with just over four minutes to play, but the Bluejays scored the next seven, closing to within a point with 2:44 to play. The Vikings scored the next five points as Elmhurst missed four shots on its next two possessions, allowing the Vikings to open up a six-point cushion with 39 seconds left.
 
A three-pointer from Kelly Weyhrich cut the Vikings' lead in half, but Augustana sealed the win from the foul line.
 
Elmhurst shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the floor in the loss, including 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from downtown. Lisa Logan and Courtney O'Donnell scored 13 points apiece to pace the Bluejays in the loss. Lauren Goff added 11 points and Marissa Urso came off the bench to score 12 for the Bluejays.
 
Augustana finished the contest shooting 48.8 percent (20-of-41) from the floor, including 50.0 percent (5-of-10) in the fourth quarter. The Vikings shot 25-of-33 (75.8 percent) from the foul line.  The Bluejays struggled to slow down the Vikings' Alexis Jones as she finished with a game-high 26 points, shooting a perfect 10-of-10 from the floor while also collecting eight rebounds. Izzy Anderson and Jeni Crain added 10 points apiece for the Vikings.

Elmhurst travels to North Central College on Saturday, January 5.
