MJ Lessila scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Elmhurst women's soccer team to a 3-0 road victory over Benedictine University.
Elmhurst (2-0) controlled the action for nearly the entire contest. The Bluejays outshot Benedictine (2-1) 18-3 and enjoyed a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Lessila started the scoring for Elmhurst in the 22nd minute by knocking home a blocked shot to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead at the break.
Elmhurst wasted little time doubling their lead in the second half.
Emma Krick scored in the 49th minute off a feed from Lessila to put the Bluejays in front 2-0. Lessila tacked on an insurance goal in the 67th minute after
Sidney O'Keeffe made a long run and crossed the ball to an open Lessila.
Lessila finished with five points for the night while O'Keeffe tallied a pair of assists.
Jami Lessila added an assist for the Bluejays.
Sophia Tuliglowski and
Bryce Marchetti combined for the shutout in goal. Tuliglowski did not face a shot in nearly 74 minutes of action. Marchetti stopped the only shot she faced in just over 16 minutes of play.
Elmhurst hosts Concordia University (Wis.) on Saturday, September 8.
