Softball Team Swept by Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst softball team dropped both ends of a CCIW doubleheader at Carthage College. The Bluejays fell 2-0 in game one and 13-1 in game two.
 
Elmhurst slid to 5-13 overall and 0-4 in the CCIW with the pair of losses. Carthage improved to 12-10 overall and 2-0 in league play.
 
CARTHAGE 2, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) – The Bluejays found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 pitcher's duel.
 
Carthage's Jennifer Michuda broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, two-run double, accounting for the only runs of the contest.
 
Carthage's Stefanie Guercio and Naomi Alzono combined to limit Elmhurst to just two hits while striking out a combined 10 batters. Guercio started and worked 1.2 innings and struck out three while Alonzo pitched the final 5.1 innings, allowing just two hits while fanning seven.
 
Elmhurst managed just two hits in the contest and finished 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position in the loss. Val Perrelli doubled and Mia Riese tripled to account for Elmhurst's only hits of the contest.
 
Emily Despain took the loss despite pitching well for the Bluejays. Despain allowed just five hits and two runs. She struck out eight while not issuing a walk.
 
CARTHAGE 13, ELMHURST 1 (Game Two) – Carthage scored six runs in the second and six in the fourth while cruising to the doubleheader sweep with a 13-1 win.
 
The Lady Reds struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first, but the Bluejays pulled even, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on Tara Cannella's RBI groundout.
 
Carthage blew things open in the bottom of the second, scoring all six runs with two outs. Alonzo delivered the big blow in in the inning with a grand slam.

The Lady Reds tacked on six runs in the fourth to pull away for the 12-run victory in five innings.
 
Elmhurst finished with three hits in the loss. Perrelli, Alyssa Ressinger and Despain all collected hits for Elmhurst.

Bailee Krantz made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering five hits and 10 runs in 3.1 innings of work. She walked five while striking out three. Ellie Bernero picked up the win for Carthage, tossing three innings and allowing just one earned run.
 
Elmhurst plays a doubleheader at Augustana College on Saturday, April 7.
