WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst softball team wrapped up the CCIW portion of its 2018 schedule by splitting a doubleheader with Carroll University. Elmhurst won the opener 2-1 before falling 2-1 in game two.
 
Elmhurst moved to 15-19 overall and finished the CCIW season with a 6-10 record.
 
ELMHURST 2, CARROLL 1 (Game One) – Emily Despain tossed a complete game while leading Elmhurst to a 2-1 win in a pitcher's duel.
 
Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third on a 
Rebekah Ondracek RBI single. Carroll answered back with a run in the bottom of the third, but 
Faith Thompson's RBI single in the fourth proved to be the game-winner for Elmhurst.
Tara Cannella recorded two of Elmhurst's seven hits in the victory.
 
Despain improved to 10-7 on the season with the victory. She scattered seven hits and allowed just one run. She did not issue a walk while striking out one. Amanda Osterhus took the loss for Carroll depite pitching well. Osterhus allowed just seven hits and two runs while fanning 11.
 
CARROLL 2, ELMHURST 1 (Game Two) – Carroll salvaged a doubleheader split by taking game two 2-1.
 
Carroll plated a run in the top of the first to take a quick 1-0 lead, but Elmhurst tied it up in the bottom of the frame after 
Val Perrelli scored on a wild pitch.
Carroll's Rosalie Jrolf doubled home the game-winning run in the top of the sixth to lift the Pioneers to the victory.
Despain made the start and took a no-decision, working three innings and allowing two hits and one run. 
Stefania Passarelli took the loss in relief, working two innings and allowing two hits and one run.
 
Elmhurst closes out its 2018 season by playing a doubleheader at the University of Chicago on Wednesday, May 2.
