ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team swept both ends of a doubleheader from Wheaton College, winning game one 5-1 and taking the night cap 7-3.

Elmhurst upped its record to 10-16 overall and 3-7 in the CCIW while Wheaton slipped to 5-23 overall and 1-9 in league play.

ELMHURST 5, WHEATON 1 (Game One) – Elmhurst banged out 12 hits and
Emily Despain pitched a complete game while picking the Bluejays scored a 5-1 victory in game one.

Wheaton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but the Bluejays quickly answered back, tying the contest on
Alyssa Ressinger's RBI double. Elmhurst took a 2-1 lead in the second on
Veronica Zahn's RBI single.

Zahn singled in another run in the fourth to give Elmhurst a 3-1 lead. A two-run single from
Emily Despain tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth for extra insurance.

Zahn led the offense with three hits and two runs. Despain added two hits and drove in two while
Val Perrelli also recorded two hits.

Despain picked up the victory from the circle, tossing all seven innings and allowing just four hits, two walks and one earned runs while striking out three.

ELMHURST 7, WHEATON 3 (Game Two) – The Bluejays scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed, finishing the sweep with a 7-3 win in game two.

Zahn put the Bluejays on the board in the first with an RBI single and later scored on a Wheaton error.
Tara Cannella's RBI single made it 3-0 in favor of Elmhurst. Wheaton got a run back in the bottom of the first, but the Bluejays extended their lead to 5-1 with two runs in the fifth. An RBI single from
Mia Riese and a sacrifice fly from
Stephanie Sturino accounted for Elmhurst's runs in the fifth.

Wheaton cut the lead down to three with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Both teams scored a run in the sixth to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Bluejays. Elmhurst tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single from Sturino.

Wheaton made things interesting in the seventh, starting the inning with three straight singles to score a run and bring the tying run to the plate with no outs.
Bailee Krantz came on in relief and recorded the final three outs to earn the save.

Ressinger, Cannella, Riese and Sturino recorded two hits apiece to pace Elmhurst's offense in the victory.

Despain picked up her second win of the day, improving to 7-6 overall. She worked five innings allowing just six hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out one.

Elmhurst hosts North Park University on Thursday, April 19.
