NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at North Central. The Bluejays fell 10-6 in game one before falling 9-0 in the night cap.
Elmhurst fell to 6-16 overall and 1-7 in the CCIW while North Central ran its record to 18-2 overall and 4-0 in the CCIW.
NORTH CENTRAL 10, ELMHURST 6 (Game One) - Elmhurst built an early 5-2 lead before the Cardinals scored a combined eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away for the 10-6 win.
A pair of bases loaded walks to
Mia Riese and
Faith Thompson gave Elmhurst an early 2-0 lead in the first. North Central got a run back in the bottom of the first and evened the score at 2-2 in the third, but Elmhurst answered back in the fourth.
Veronica Zahn singled home a run to put the Bluejays in front 3-2.
Rebekah Ondracek followed with a two-run triple to extend the Bluejays' lead to three.
North Central took advantage of two Elmhurst errors in the fourth to send nine batters to the plate and score six runs. A three-run double from Emily Miller and a two-run single from Samantha Phelps fueled the Cardinals' big inning.
North Central tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-5 lead. Elmhurst scored a run on a North Central error in the sixth but the Cardinals closed out the game and won by four.
Ondracek, Zahn and
Tara Cannella collected two hits apiece for the Bluejays in the loss.
Bailee Krantz made the start and took the loss surrendering seven hits and six runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings of work. She walked one and struck out two.
NORTH CENTRAL 9, ELMHURST 0 (Game Two) - North Central banged out 16 hits while cruising to a 9-0 win in game two.
The Cardinals scored a run in the first and three in the third to open up a quick 4-0 lead. The Cardinals added two runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to come away with the nine-run victory in six innings.
Ondracek collected two of Elmhurst's three hits in the loss.
Stefania Passarelli took the loss for Elmhurst, working three innings and allowing eight hits and four runs. She walked one and struck out one. North Central's Jennifer Yager picked up the victory, tossing six innings and allowing just three hits and one walk while fanning two.
Elmhurst plays at Trinity Christian College on Friday, April 13.
