CLERMONT, Fla. – The Elmhurst softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida by falling to both Allegheny College and Washington & Jefferson College.

Elmhurst finished its 12-game trip with a 5-7 overall record. The Bluejays dropped their opening game of the day 6-4 to Allegheny before falling 9-0 to Washington & Jefferson.

ALLEGHENY 6, ELMHURST 4 -Â Elmhurst was done in by a five-run fifth inning from Allegheny in a 6-4 loss.

Elmhurst grabbed an early 2-0 lead after an RBI double from Faith Thompson and a run-scoring single from Veronica Zahn in the top of the second.

Allegheny answered back with a run in the bottom of the second to cut Elmhurst's lead in half. Allegheny took control in the fifth, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring five times, capitalizing on a pair of Elmhurst errors.

Elmhurst grabbed two runs back in the top of the seventh on a two-run triple from
Tara Cannella. The Bluejays loaded the bases with one out, putting the tying runs in scoring position, but a pop out and a strikeout ended the team's rally.

Zahn led the Bluejays at the plate with three hits and an RBI.

Emily Despain took the loss for Elmhurst, falling to 3-3 on the season. Despain worked five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs (just two earned). She walked three and struck out two.

WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON 9, ELMHURST 0 – The Bluejays were limited to just three hits in a 9-0 loss to Washington& Jefferson College.
Washington & Jefferson scored a run in the first and another in the second to take a quick 2-0 lead. They added four runs in the fourth and pulled away with two late insurance runs in the seventh to come away with the nine-run win.

Alyssa Ressinger recorded all three of the Bluejays' hits in the loss.

Washington & Jefferson's Taylor Andres tossed a shutout, limiting the Bluejays to just three hits over seven innings. Andrew issued just one walk while striking out two.

Jenna Garaci took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in three innings of work.
Bailee Krantz finished up, surrendering eight hits and six runs over four innings.

Elmhurst plays a doubleheader at Benedictine University on March 28.
