Softball Team Drops Two at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Benedictine University. The Bluejays dropped the opener 6-3 before falling 8-0 in the nightcap.

Elmhurst slid to 5-9 on the season with the two losses.
 
BENEDICTINE 6, ELMHURST 3 (Game One) – Benedictine (6-7) scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed in the contest.
 
Elmhurst pulled to within a run with a two-run outburst in the top of the third. Alyssa Ressinger singled home a run and Tara Cannella followed with an RBI double to make the score 3-2.
 
The Eagles added a run in the fourth and tacked on two runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2. The Bluejays brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh after Ressinger singled in a run, but a groundout and fly out ended the Bluejays' rally.
 
Ressinger led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits and two RBIs while Veronica Zahn and Mia Riese added two hits apiece for the Bluejays.  Ele Sakellaropoulos led Benedictine, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
 
Emily Despain took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering nine hits and six runs (four earned). She walked one and struck out two.

BENEDICTINE 8, ELMHURST 0 (Game Two) – The Eagles banged out 10 hits while the Bluejays managed just one in an 8-0 loss in game two.
 
Benedictine scored a run in the second then broke the game open with a five-run third inning, keyed by a three-run homer from Emily Chitwood. The Eagles tacked on a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to pull away for the five-inning victory.

Zahn collected Elmhurst's only hit in the loss.
 
Stefania Passarelli took the loss for Elmhurst, working 2.2 innings and allowing six hits and six earned runs.
 
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 31.
