Bluejays Blow Past Carthage 95-79

KENOSHA, Wis. - A balanced attack with five players in double figures in scoring helped propel the Elmhurst men's basketball team to a 95-79 road win over Carthage College.

Elmhurst (4-3, 2-0 CCIW) scored the game's first eight points and never trailed, leading wire-to-wire in the contest. Leading by eight (30-22) with 6:30 left in the opening half, the Bluejays closed the half on a 20-8 run to open up a commanding 20-point cushion (50-30) at the half. 

Elmhurst pushed its lead up to 24 points in the second half before holding off a late second half rally from Carthage. The Red Men chipped the Bluejays' lead down to 15 with 11:30 remaining only for the Bluejays to bump their lead back to 19 with seven minutes remaining. A 13-6 run over the next three minutes pulled Carthage to within 12 points and a three-pointer with 1:42 left brought the Red Men to within nine points, but Elmhurst scored the game's final seven points to pull away for the 16-point win. 

The Bluejays shot 57.1 percent from the floor, including a whopping 61.3 percent (19-of-31) in the opening half. The Bluejays connected on 11-of-25 attempts (44.0 percent) from three-point distance in the win. 

Jeremy Ireland led the way for Elmhurst in the win, finishing with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Rhode added 17 points and five assists while Nick Perry and Lavon Thomas added 13 points apiece. Derek Dotlich connected on three three-pointers and totaled 11 points in the win. Jay Militello added nine points for the Bluejays. Elmhurst's bench outscored Carthage's reserved 32-10 in the win.

Carthage shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the floor, including 26.7 percent (8-of-30) from beyond the arc. Jordan Kedrowski paced Carthage with 26 points while Kienan Baltimore added 23 points and Preston Laketa scored 15. 

Elmhurst hosts North Park University on Saturday, December 15.
