ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team scored its first CCIW victor of the season by knocking off North Park University 68-60 at R.A. Faganel Hall.

Elmhurst (4-5, 1-2) built a four-point lead (31-27) at halftime. North Park (5-5, 2-2) outshot the Bluejays 52.9 percent (9-of-17) to 32.0 percent (8-of-25) in the game's first 20 minutes, but the Bluejays hit 4-of-9 attempts from three-point durance and converted 11-of-14 free throw attempts. North Park struggled from the foul line in the opening half, making just 7-of-15 attempts.

Elmhurst stretched its lead up to eight points late in the third quarter only to see North Park charge back in the fourth. The Vikings cut the deficit down to just one point on four separate occasions only to see Elmhurst answer back. The Bluejays led by three with four minutes to play when an
Elena Cabrera layup extended Elmhurst's lead to 62-57. The Vikings cut the lead down to four on a free throw, but
Becca Gerke's baseline jumper with under three minutes left gave Elmhurst a 64-58 lead. A putback by Gerke extended Elmhurst's lead back to eight with just over two minutes left on the clock. North Park came no closer than six points for the remainder of the contest as the Bluejays held on for the eight-point win.

Elmhurst finished the game shooting 38.3 percent (18-of-47) from the floor, including 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays were solid from the free throw line, hitting 28-of-37 attempts, good for 75.7 percent. The Bluejays also cashed in 23 North Park turnovers for 25 points.

Lisa Logan led a balanced Elmhurst attack, finishing with 11 points.
Kween Jean and
Courtney O'Donnell added nine points apiece while Gerke, Melissa Urso and Cabrera totaled eight points apiece for the Bluejays.

North Park shot 45.0 percent (18-of-40) from the floor, including 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from three-point distance. The Vikings hit 22-of-33 attempts from the foul line (66.7 percent. Jayla Johnson led the Vikings in the loss with a game-high 16 points. Lauryn Alba-Garner added 14 points while Angelisa Villasin scored 10.
