CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Elmhurst men's basketball team slipped to 2-2 on the season following a 95-71 loss at Wabash College.
Elmhurst struggled with its shooting, finishing the game at just 39.7 percent (25-of-63). Wabash remained unbeaten with the victory, upping its record to 4-0 overall.
Elmhurst scored the game's first bucket, but Wabash rattled off the next 10, taking a 10-2 lead and never looking back. The Little Giants led by as many as 20 points in the opening half and carried a 54-38 lead into the locker room at halftime. Wabash connected on eight three-pointers in the game's first 20 minutes while also hitting 12-of-16 free throws.
Wabash continued to pull away in the second half, running its lead up to 30 points with 12:38 left to play. The Bluejays pulled to within 17 points with seven minutes to go, but came no closer as Wabash coasted to the 24-point win.
Elmhurst shot 36.0 percent from three-point distance (9-of-25) while struggling from the foul line at just 54.5 percent (12-of-22). Wabash won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Elmhurst 48-35. Wabash finished the game shooting 43.8 percent (29-of-62) from the field, including 43.8 percent (14-of-32) from beyond the arc. The Little Giants went to the free throw line 30 times, hitting 23 attempts to shot 76.7 percent from the foul line.
Jake Rhode led Elmhurst with 13 points in the loss.
Jeremy Ireland finished one point shy of a double-double, totaling nine points and 10 rebounds.
Derek Dotlich and
Colin Bomstad added nine points apiece for the Bluejays while
Jay Militello chipped in with seven.
Kellen Schreiber came off the bench to lead Wabash with 23 points shooting 8-of-13 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from downtown. Jack Davidson added 17 points while Ben Stachowski finished with 10.
Elmhurst hosts the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday, December 1.
