Bluejays Breeze Past Edgewood 87-60

ELMHURST, Ill. – Eleven different players put points on the scoreboard as the Elmhurst men's basketball team cruised to an 87-60 win over Edgewood College.
 
Elmhurst upped its record to 9-3 on the season while playing its final non-conference game of the season. After deciding its last three games by a combined eleven points, the Bluejays left no doubt in this contest, scoring their largest margin of victory on the season. Elmhurst also limited Edgewood (4-8) to only 60 points, the second lowest total the Bluejays have allowed this season.
 
Edgewood scored the game's opening basket, but it would be the Eagles' only lead of the contest. With the score tied at 6-6, Elmhurst ripped off an 8-0 run to open up a 14-6 lead. Edgewood cut the deficit down to three points with 13 minutes remaining, but Elmhurst scored the next seven points, including five straight from Justin Fox, to open up a double-digit lead. Leading by nine with seven minutes remaining in the first, the Bluejays closed the half with a 21-6 run to open up a commanding 24-point (51-27) lead at the half.
 
The Bluejays continued to pull away in the second, leading by as many as 32 points early and allowing Edgedwood to come no closer than 22 points before coasting to the 27-point win.
 
Elmhurst shot a blistering 58.9 percent (33-of-56) from the floor, including 63.6 percent (19-of-30) in the game's opening half. The Bluejays knocked down 10-of-22 three-pointers (45.5 percent) while also dominating the game inside. Elmhurst outscored Edgewood 38-22 in the paint and outrebounded the Eagles 42-17.
 
Jeremy Ireland was one of four players to reach double-figures in the win for Elmhurst. Ireland pumped in 24 points while shooting 9-of-13 from the floor. He recorded his fourth consecutive and ninth overall double-double of the season by pulling down 11 rebounds in just 31 minutes of action. The 24 points finished one point shy of matching his season-high. Jake Rhode added 15 points while dishing out a game-high six assists. Ryan Patton added 13 points while Derek Dotlich totaled 10 points and six rebounds. Lance Gardner came off the bench to score seven for Elmhurst.
 
Edgewood shot 40.0 percent (20-of-50) from the floor in the loss, including 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from downtown. Emil Radisevic led Edgewood with 16 points while Ben Seefeld and Arik Anderson scored 12 points apiece.
 
Elmhurst (2-1 CCIW) resumes CCIW play on Saturday, January 6, by traveling to Illinois Wesleyan University.
