ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team opened its 2017 season by defeating Fontbonne 3-1 at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard just 15 minutes into the contest.
Kennedy Irmen launched a free kick to the box to
Genevieve Kapecki. Kapecki flicked the ball on to O'Keeffe who beat Fontbonne keeper Makayla Hussong to put Elmhurst in front 1-0.
Elmhurst tacked on a pair of goals early in the second half.
Emma Krick knocked home a loose ball off a
Kim Stanczak corner kick to put the Bluejays up 2-0 in the 52nd minute. Seven minutes later, Stanczak headed home a
Brittany Reinhart corner kick to extend Elmhurst's lead to 3-0.
Fontbonne's Anna Whitaker headed home a corner kick in the 76th minute to make the final score 3-1.
Elmhurst outshot Fontbonne 10-9 in the contest and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sophia Tuliglowski recorded six saves in goal to record the win for Elmhurst.
The Bluejays are in action tomorrow night (September 2) when the squad hosts Principia College at Langhorst Field.
