Elmhurst Drops Season Finale

ELMHURST, Ill. – Under an unrelenting downpour, the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team wrapped up its season with an 11-6 loss to the University of Dubuque.
 
The two teams quickly traded goals in the opening minutes. Claire Carlson put the Spartans ahead 45 seconds into the contest before Grace Knoebel answered less than two minutes later.
 
Both goalkeepers, Elmhurst's Megan Keener and Dubuque's Kyra Nelson, made some good saves to keep the game in a 1-1 deadlock for over 14 minutes. Keener finished the half with seven saves, helping the Bluejays stay in the game despite being outshot 12-8.
 
Knoebel scored two more times to put Elmhurst in front 3-1. Dubuque found its offense late in the half, going on a 3-0 run in the final 4:50 to take a 4-3 lead into halftime.
 
After the intermission, Annette Stidham knotted the score at four with her sixth goal of the season. After Dubuque rallied for a two-goal lead, Sam Sepke went coast-to-coast, completing a clear attempt and burying her first goal of the game.
 
The Spartans finished the game on a 5-1 run to pull away. Elmhurst's final goal came from Knoebel, her fourth of the game and 40th of the season.
 
Dubuque outshot Elmhurst 24-17, including 21-12 in shots on goal. Elmhurst forced more turnovers (17-14) and converted more clears (16-of-20 to 10-of-13).
 
Keener finished with 10 saves, while Knoebel led the Bluejays in ground balls with five. Stidham caused three turnovers to lead the team.
 
Claire Carlson netted four goals for Dubuque, while Robyn Wittkopf dished out four assists.
 
With it being the final home game of the season, the program honored seniors Stidham and Krystyna Kotlinski, who combined for 11 goals, three assists, 162 ground balls, 43 draw controls, and 70 caused turnovers in 90 career games played.
 
Elmhurst finishes its campaign at 2-15 and 1-5 in the CCIW.
