WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst baseball team totaled 21 runs over two games while coming away a doubleheader split against Carroll University.

Elmhurst dropped the opener 13-12 in a slugfest, but bounced back to take game two 9-6 behind
Nathan Tovell's complete game.

With the split, the Bluejays moved to 10-8 in the CCIW and 17-15 overall. Elmhurst sits in fourth-place in the CCIW standings, a half-game in front of both Wheaton and Carthage in the league standings. The top four squads qualify for the CCIW Tournament.

CARROLL 13, ELMHURST 12 (Game One) – Elmhurst bashed four home runs, but came up on the wrong side of a 13-12 slugfest with Carroll.

After holding Carroll scoreless for the first four innings, the Pioneers scored in each of the last five, erasing Elmhurst leads in the final three frames.

Ben Havel cracked a two-run homer in the first and
A.J. Compton belted a solo shot in the fifth to stake Elmhurst to an early 3-0 lead. Carroll took a run back in the fifth, but Elmhurst extended its lead to five-runs in the sixth when Compton connected on a three-run blast.

Carroll answered back with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull even. Long balls from A.J. Johnson and Hunter Frey sparked the inning for the Pioneers.Â

Elmhurst put two runs on the board in the top of the seventh but Carroll answered back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take their first lead of the game at 9-8. Elmhurst scored three runs in the top of the eighth, including a pair on a
Matt Wilson two-run homer, reclaiming the lead at 11-9. Carroll answered back again, using a three-run homer from Brady Durni to go back in front at 12-11.

The Bluejays were down to their final out in the top of the ninth, but Wilson delivered a game-tying RBI single. Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Carroll in the bottom of the ninth. Sam Harmeyer delivered the game-winning single to give the Pioneers the 13-12 win.

Compton led Elmhurst in the loss, finishing 4-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Compton homered twice and added a double. Wilson finished with three hits and three RBIs while
Evan Berliner collected two hits and drove in a run.

Matt Putman led Carroll with four hits and two runs scored. Durni and Frey finished with two hits and three RBIs apiece.
Austin MacMillan made the start for the Bluejays and took a no-decision. MacMillan tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and six runs. He fanned three while not walking a batter.
Kiko Mari took the loss in relief, allowing two hits and one run in the ninth inning.

ELMHURST 9, CARROLL 6 (Game Two) – Elmhurst earned the split with Carroll with a 9-6 win in game two.

Carroll grabbed an early 3-1 lead on a Jake Langford two-run double in the third. Elmhurst answered back with a run in the fourth on Trey Comtpon's RBI double. Elmhurst took advantage of Carroll errors in the fifth to place four runs and open up a 6-3 lead. The Pioneers scored two in the bottom of the sixth to close to within a run, but the Bluejays cashed in on another error on Carroll in the eight to push their lead to 8-5.

Carroll grabbed one run back in the bottom of the seventh to pull to within two, but Wilson knocked in an insurance run in the eighth to help the Bluejays pull away for the 9-6 win.
Trey Compton finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, including a solo homer.
A.J. Compton added three hits, scored two runs and drove in a run while
Brandon Kressner and
Ben Havel collected two hits apiece in the win.

Sam Harmeyer and Nolan Heck finished with three hits apiece to lead Carroll in the loss.

Tovell went the distance for the Bluejays, pitching his second straight complete game victory. He scattered 10 hits and six runs (just three earned) over nine innings. He walked just one while striking out four.
