ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team salvaged a doubleheader split with Augustana by winning game two 12-2. 
 
Elmhurst dropped the opener 4-2, but broke out the offense in game two, winning by 10 runs in five innings. The Bluejays improved to 13-15 overall and 4-6 in the CCIW while Augustana moved to 9-19 and 2-8 in league play.
 
AUGUSTANA 4, ELMHURST 2 (Game One) – Augustana scored four runs in the top of the fourth to down the Bluejays 4-2 in the doubleheader opener.
 
Elmhurst struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on a 
Mikayla Melone RBI double.
 
Augustana answered back in the top of the fourth, plating four runs to take a 4-1 lead. Alaina Hoffman slugged a two-run homer to left to give Augustana a 2-1 lead. Lauren Severson added a two-out, two-run single later in the inning to put the Vikings up by three.
 
Elmhurst got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a double play grounder that scored 
Stephanie Sturino from third base.
 
Elmhurst put runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Bluejays stranded runners in each inning, leaving a total of seven stranded for the entire game, including four in scoring position.
 
Lauren Rismondo and 
Val Perrelli recorded two hits apiece for the Bluejays in the loss. Hoffman and Severson both collected two hits and drove in two runs each for Augustana.
 
Stefanie Sanidas made the start for Elmhurst and took the loss, working all seven innings and allowing eight hits and four runs. She walked four and struck out four while slipping to 6-8 on the season. Kelcie Fredrickson picked up the win for Augustana, tossing a complete game while scattering nine hits. She walked one and fanned one.
 
ELMHURST 12, AUGUSTANA 2 (Game Two) – A six-run second inning by the Bluejays led to a 12-2 win in game two.
 
Elmhurst took advantage of an Augustana error and three walks in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.

Elmhurst broke things open in the second, scoring six runs on four hits. Three straight walks loaded the bases for Elmhurst with no outs. 
Lauren Rismondo singled home a run to keep the bases loaded and give Elmhurst a 2-0 lead. The Bluejays scored their next run on an ultra-rare triple steal. Facing a 2-2 count, 
Rebekah Ondracek took a ball but ran to first thinking it was ball four, all three runners advanced on the live ball and were credited with stolen bases. Ondracek returned to the plate with a full count and promptly reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases again. 
Mikayla Melone followed with an RBI single before Perrelli knocked in two with a double. Sydney Routsi singled home the Bluejays' final run of the inning, giving Elmhurst a 7-0 lead after two innings.
 
Elmhurst continued its offensive surge in the third, scoring four runs on six hits. Ondracek delivered the big blow in the frame, a two-run homer to left field. 
Tara Cannella added an RBI single to extend Elmhurst's lead to 11-0.
 
Augustana got a run back in the bottom of the third, but Elmhurst added an insurance run on a Cannella RBI single in the fifth and cruised to the 10-run win in five innings.
 
Perrelli collected two hits and drove in three to pace the Bluejays in the win. Rismondo added two hits and scored two runs while Ondracek scored twice and drove in two.
 
Danielle Klatt took the loss for Augustana, surrendering seven hits and 10 runs (nine earned) in two innings. Klatt walked six in the loss. 
Emily Despain earned the win, improving 5-5 on the season. She pitched a complete game, scattering 10 hits and a walk while allowing just two runs.
 
Elmhurst hosts St. Mary's College (Ind.) on Sunday, April 23.
