CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida with a 7-5 record after downing Colby and Buffalo State.
Elmhurst edged Colby 4-3 in eight innings before holding off Buffalo State for a 10-7 win. 
ELMHURST 4, COLBY 3 - Emily Despain's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the Bluejays edged Colby4-3 in extra innings. 
Elmhurst grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning scoring a run on a wild pitch and a second on a 
Lauren Rismondo RBI double. Colby struck back with three unearned runs in the bottom of the second, taking a one-run lead in the process. 
Elmhurst pulled even in the fourth inning as Rismondo laid down a suicide squeeze to score Despain from third base. 
Using tiebreaker rules that start a runner on second base in the extra innings, the Bluejays used a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly from Despain to go in front 4-3. A pair of strikeouts and a groundout in the bottom of the eight wrapped up the game for the Bluejays. 
Bri Getzloff and Despain powered Elmhurst at the plate, combing for seven of the team's nine hits. Getzloff finished a perfect 4-for-4 while Despain added three hits and scored two runs. 
Stephanie Sturino made the start and took a no-decision, working four innings and allowing five hits and three unearned runs. She walked three and fanned four. Despain recorded her first collegiate victory in relief. She worked four scoreless innings while not allowing a hit or a walk. She fanned six in the victory.
ELMHURST 10, BUFFALO STATE 7 - Elmhurst raced out to a 7-1 led before holding off a late charge from Buffalo State for a 10-7 victory.
The Bluejays sent all nine batters to the plate in the first, scoring five runs in the process. 
Rebekah Ondracek and 
Mikayla Melone started the scoring with RBI singles while Sturino delivered a big blow with a three-run, bases-clearing double. 
Val Perrelli and Ondracek drove in a run apiece in the second to put Elmhurst in front 7-1. 
Buffalo State scored a run in the third and added three more in the fifth to pull to within three runs at 8-5. RBIs from Getzloff and Ondracek pushed Elmhurst's lead back to 10-5 after six innings. 
Buffalo State plated two runs in the top of the seventh and brought the tying run to the plate, before the Bluejays' 
Bailee Krantz retired the final three batters to close out the contest. 
Ondracek finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a game-high four RBIs to lead Elmhurst at the plate. 
Despain made the start and did not factor in the decision, tossing three innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs while walking one and fanning two. 
Stefanie Sanidas picked up the win, improving to 4-2 on the season. Krantz recorded her first save of the season, retiring all three batters she faced in the seventh. 
Elmhurst takes on Wisconsin-Stout and Concordia-Chicago at the Bandits Stadium in Rosemont on Sunday, March 26.
