ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team moved to 8-6 on the season after splitting games with the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Concordia University-Chicago.
Elmhurst opened the day with a 4-1 win over UW-Stout before dropping the nightcap 9-7 to Concordia.

ELMHURST 4, UW-STOUT 1 – Elmhurst scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back, scoring a 4-1 win over the UW-Stout.

UW-Stout (6-10) scored first on a Jessica Daley solo shot in the top of the first, but Elmhurst took advantage of a costly Blue Devils' error in the bottom of the frame to plate three unearned runs. An error on
Val Perrelli's grounder, allowed
Lauren Rismondo to score from second.
Mikayla Melone kept the inning alive with an RBI double. After a walk to
Sydney Ruotsi,
Stephanie Sturino hit a grounder to second base, but Ruotsi beat the throw at second and Melone came around to score to give Elmhurst a 3-1 cushion.

Elmhurst made it 4-1 in the bottom of the second on a solo homer from
Lauren Rismondo to left field.

Rismondo and Melone finished with two hits apiece for the Bluejays in the win.

The three runs was also
Stefanie Sanidas needed from the circle. The senior pitcher cruised to the victory, allowing only two runners to reach second base after the first inning. Sanidas allowed just four hits, one run and one walk while recording her fifth victory of the season. She struck out seven while pitching a complete game.

CONCORDIA 9, ELMHURST 7 – The Bluejays had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 9-1 loss to Concordia-Chicago.  Elmhurst dug themselves an early eight-run hole before mounting a rally that came up two runs short.

The Cougars put runs on the scoreboard in the first five innings while racing out to an eight-run lead. An RBI groundout from Michelle Alexander gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the first. Marita Van Dyke cracked a solo homer and Maddie Knoblauch singled home a run in the second to make the score 3-0.

Elmhurst took a run back in the bottom of the second on a two-out RBI single from Rismondo, but Concordia responded in the top of third, using a two-run double from Van Dyke to extend their lead to 5-1. The Cougars tacked on a run in the fourth to make it a 6-1 contest. Â An RBI single from Knoblauch and a two-run single from Megan Strong in the fifth gave the Cougars the eight-run lead headed into the bottom of the fifth. Concordia was one strike away from ending the game via the eight-run mercy rule, but an infield hit off the pitcher's glove loaded the bases for Elmhurst.
Sydney Ruotsi cleared the bases with a three-run double to left field. Ruotsi came home to score on a wild pitch to cut Concordia's lead in half at 9-5 after five innings.

Elmhurst chipped away at the Cougars' lead again in the sixth. The Bluejays loaded the bases with one out and scored a run on
Val Perrelli's sacrifice fly.
Rebekah Ondracek followed with a run-scoring single to pull Elmhurst to within two runs, but Concordia ended the Bluejays' rally and worked a perfect seventh inning to preserve the 9-7 win.Â

Emily Despain made the start from the circle and took the loss, allowing six hits and five runs in three innings of work. She walked one and struck out one.

Elmhurst hosts Benedictine on Tuesday, March 28 at the Stadium at the Ballpark in Rosemont. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
