WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Elmhurst baseball team wrapped up its Florida road trip by edging Carleton College 5-4.
Elmhurst fell behind 3-0 after the top of the first, but the Bluejays quickly responded.
Brandon Kressner singled to lead off the Elmhurst first and moved to third on
Ben Havel's double.
A.J. Compton followed with a two-run double to slice Carleton's lead down to just one.
Elmhurst went in front 4-3 after scoring two runs in the second. An error on Carleton allowed
Christian Ott to come home and score. An RBI single from Compton plated Kressner to put Elmhurst up 4-3.
The Bluejays tacked on a run in the sixth inning on a solo blast from Havel. Carleton closed to within a run after scoring one in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bluejays held on for the 5-4 win.
Havel led the Bluejays at the plate with three hits, two runs scored an an RBI.
Matt Wilson also tallied three hits for the Bluejays while Compton totaled two hits and three RBIs.
Daryl Rivera earned the win for Elmhurst, pitching six innings and allowing just eight hits and one earned run. Havel struck out the side in the ninth to record his first save of the season.
Elmhurst returns home with a 6-7 overall record. The Bluejays play at North Central College on Tuesday, March 28.
