CLERMONT, Fla. – The Elmhurst softball team moved to 2-4 on its spring break trip to Florida by splitting a pair of contests.

Elmhurst opened the day with an 8-1 win over Sewanee-University of the South before falling 9-6 to Carleton.

ELMHURST 8, SEWANEE 1 – Elmhurst snapped a three-game skid with a convincing 8-1 win over Sewanee.

Elmhurst wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as the Bluejays plated four runs in the bottom of the first.
Mikayla Melone singled in a run to start the scoring while
Rebekah Ondracek added a run on a sacrifice fly.
Tara Cannella added an RBI triple and then scored on
Val Perrelli's RBI single. Cannella drove in her second run of the game with a single in the third inning to extend Elmhurst's lead to 5-0.

Sewanee scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth to pull to within one, but Elmhurst salted the game away in the sixth with three runs to earn the 8-1 victory.

Melone, Ondracek,
Sydney Ruotsi and Canenella all finished with two hits apiece in the victory. Melone and Cannella drove in two runs apiece while
Lauren Rismondo also scored two runs and drove in a run for Elmhurst.

Stephanie Sturino made the start and earned the win for Elmhurst, pitching six innings and allowing just five hits and one unearned run. She walked two and struck out five.
Stefania Passarelli pitched a perfect seventh inning while striking out two.
CARLETON 9, ELMHURST 6 – Elmhurst was done in by a six-run outburst from Carleton in the fifth inning. With the score even at 3-3 after four innings, Carleton sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth and plated six runs to surge in front.

Elmhurst mounted a rally that fell just short in the seventh.
Lauren Rismondo tripled in two runs to start the Bluejays' scoring.
Bri Getzloff followed with an RBI single to pull Elmhurst to within three runs. The Bluejays brought the tying run to the plate, but a groundout and a strikeout ended Elmhurst's rally and the contest.

Rismondo scored a pair of runs and drove in two runs to pace Elmhurst at the plate in the loss.
Stefanie Sanidas took the loss for Elmhurst, working 4.1 innings and allowing seven hits and six earned runs.
Emily Despain pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out one.

Elmhurst takes Tuesday off before returning to action on Wednesday, March 22, with games against D'Youville and Union (N.Y.)
