ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's basketball team knocked down 11 three-pointers to hold off Wheaton College 71-68 at R.A. Faganel Hall.

Elmhurst improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW with the victory while dealing Wheaton its third loss of the season (4-3). The Thunder slipped to 1-2 in league play.

Jasmin Bailey buried six three-pointer for the second consecutive game to lead Elmhurst from the outside while
Mikaela Eppard recorded the fifth-highest single-game rebounding total in school history by grabbing 22 boards.

Elmhurst led for over 11 minutes of the opening half, building a 36-30 lead at the break.
Hannah Henderson scored the first seven points for the Bluejays and totaled 10 points in the opening quarter as Elmhurst carried a 17-15 lead into the second quarter. Wheaton took a three-point lead on a Hannah Frazier three-pointer four minutes into the half and the Thunder pushed their lead up to four points with just three minutes remaining. Elmhurst closed the half with a 14-4 run over the final three minutes to build a six-point lead at the break. A pair of three-pointers from
Georgia Garvie and a third trey from
Kelly Weyhrich fueled the Bluejays run over the final three minutes.

Elmhurst endured a sluggish start to the third quarter while Wheaton quickly tied the contest at 38-38 three minutes into the half. Back-to-back three-pointers from Bailey quickly put the Bluejays back in front by six. Wheaton pulled even at 46-all with three minutes left in the quarter, but Bailey hit four three-pointers in the final three minutes, including an off-balanced buzzer beater to end the quarter, to give Elmhurst a 58-52 lead entering the fourth.

The Bluejays pushed their lead up to seven points early in the fourth before Wheaton slowly clawed their way back into the contest. The Thunder used a 12-4 run over a 5:30 span to take a 64-63 lead on a Hannah Frazier layup.

Elmhurst went back in front by three, but four straight points from the Thunder put the visitors in front 68-67 with 56 seconds left to play. After an Elmhurst miss, Bailey stripped Hannah Williams in the paint and
Kelly Weyhrich was fouled after the steal. Weyhrich hit both free throws with 18 seconds left to put the Bluejays in front 69-68. After a Wheaton miss, Wehyrich was fouled with eight seconds to go and hit both free throws to put the game away for Elmhurst.

The Bluejays shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the floor, but knocked down 55.0 percent (11-of-20) of their attempts from three-point distance. The Bluejays were solid from the foul line, converting 18-of-21 attempts (85.7 percent). Elmhurst also won the battle on the glass 43-33.
Five players reached double figures in scoring for the Bluejays. Bailey poured in 20 points, including 18 of the Bluejays' 22 points in the third quarter. She shot 6-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-8 from downtown. The six three-pointers is the second-highest single-game total in school history.
Hannah Henderson finished with 11 points and eight assists while Weyhrich, Eppard and
Kaela Jones all totaled 10 points apiece. Eppard dominated on the glass with a career-high 22 rebounds, the fifth-highest single-game total in school history.

Wheaton finished the contest shooting 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the floor and also outscored Elmhurst in the paint 34-20. The Thunder struggled from three-point range (3-of-11 for 27.3 percent) and from the foul line (13-of-19 for 68.4 percent). Maggie Dansdill led the Thunder with 14 points while Devin Kyler and Hannah Frazier scored 11 apiece.
