LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Elmhurst wrestling team dropped three duals to some of the nation's best teams at the Candlewood Suites Duals hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
 
Elmhurst (1-4) opened the day with a 26-18 loss to Cornell College before dropping a 38-10 dual to eighth-ranked Loras College. The Bluejays closed the day with an 42-3 loss to No. 2 Augsburg University.

CORNELL 26, ELMHURST 18 – Elmhurst won four of the six matches in an eight-point loss to Cornell. The Rams opened with six points after the Bluejays forfeited the first match of the day at 125 pounds. Anthony Munoz evened the dual meet score by pinning Devin Stortz in the second period (3:38) of the 133-pound weight class. Cornell won matches at 141 and 149 pounds to open up a 13-6 advantage.

Elmhurst stormed back with consecutive wins at 157 and 165. Keone Derrain scored a 16-0 technical fall over Nic Jarvis at 157 pounds and Gunnar Hjorth followed with a 17-4 major decicision over Seth Niichel at 165 pounds. The two wins gave Elmhurst a 15-13 lead after the first six weight classes. Cornell's Wylie Allen pinned Shawn Swiderek at 174 pounds and the Rams' Bryce Oveson followed with a 3-1 win over Leo Ortiz at 184 pounds. The two victories put the Rams in front 22-15.
 
Elmhurst's Mark Miller cut the dual deficit down to just three points with a 4-3 win over Chris Lyons at 197 pounds. Cornell's Tyler Ortmann closed out the dual and wrapped up the win for the Rams with a 12-2 major decision over the Bluejays' Karim Fuentes at 285 pounds.
 
LORAS 38, ELMHURST 10 – The Bluejays suffered a 38-10 loss to eighth-ranked Loras in the second dual of the day. Elmhurst won just two matches in the dual with Munoz and Derain both scoring wins for the Bluejays. Munoz, ranked seventh in D3wrestle.com's rankings, pinned ninth-ranked Michael Triplett in the second period (4:11). Derain added a 12-0 major decision over the Duhawks' Merrick Purcell at 165 pounds.

AUGSBURG 42, ELMHURST 3 – The Bluejays fell to 0-3 on the day after falling to No. 2 Augsburg 42-3. Elmhurst scored its' only win of the day at 184 pounds when Leo Ortiz scored a 4-2 tiebreaker victory over Jonathan Zarnke.
 
Two other matches featured a pair of top-10 wrestlers. Fifth-ranked Sam Bennyhoff toppled Munoz 6-3 at 133 pounds. Seventh ranked Ryan Epps upended 10th-ranked Derain 3-1 in overtime at 157 pounds.
