NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Elmhurst wrestling team posted a 2-1 record on the day while competing at the Gator Boots Duals.
 
Elmhurst downed Simpson (30-24) and Heidelberg (29-14) before falling to ninth-ranked Ferrum 31-12.

ELMHURST 30, SIMPSON 24 – Elmhurst opened the day by topping Simpson 30-24 after splitting four of the eight matches wrestled. Zach Dixon's win at 285 pounds broke a 24-24 tie to give Elmhurst the victory.

Trailing 6-0 after a forfeit at 125 pounds, the Bluejays quickly surged in front behind three straight wins by pin. At 133 pounds, Anthony Munoz pinned Alek Ziegler 14 seconds into the second period to knot the dual score at 6-6. Jimmy McAuliffe followed at 141 pounds and pinned John Gioffredi in 2:37 to put Elmhurst in front 12-6. John Prieto needed just 53 seconds to score a fall over Blake Bauer at 149 pounds. After Keone Derain earned a forfeit at 157 pounds the Bluejays had opened up a 24-6 advantage.

Simpson ripped off four straight wins to pull even at 24-24 with just the 285-pound weight class remaining. Dixon wrapped up the dual for Elmhurst by pinning Sam Mathis 30 seconds into the third period.
 
ELMHURST 29, HEIDELBERG 14 – The Bluejays won seven of the nine contests wrestled en route to a 29-14 dual win over Heidelberg.

After a forfeit at 125 pounds, Elmhurst won the next five matches to take a commanding lead in the dual. Munoz toppled Richard Bogetich 3-0 at 133 pounds while McAuliffe followed with a 16-0 technical fall over Slade Todd at 141. Prieto dispatched Hayden Bates 15-10 at 149 pounds while Derain pinned Chris White in 1:26 at 157 pounds. Victor Keane scored a 7-5 decision over Logan Broski at 165 pounds. Leo Ortiz pinned Patrick Brown in 4:25 at 184 pounds while Mark Miller scored a 7-1 victory over Tyler Hammack at 197 pounds.

FERRUM 31, ELMHURST 12 – Elmhurst closed the tournament with a 31-12 loss to No. 9 Ferrum. The Bluejays won three of the eight matches wrestled. McAuliffe scored a 16-0 technical fall over Tatom Tyree at 141 pounds. Derain upended Clifford Harrison by a 12-2 major decision at 157 pounds. Miller recorded the Bluejays' final win of the day by defeating Hunter Goulart 7-1 at 197 pounds.
