Bluejays Soar Past Illinois College 88-68

CHICAGO, Ill. – Four players reached double figures in scoring to lead the Elmhurst College women's basketball team to an 88-68 win over Illinois College at the North Park University Invitational.
 
Elmhurst improved to 2-2 on the season with the win while Illinois College dropped to 2-4.
 
The Bluejays fell behind early as Illinois College built a 14-7 lead midway through the opening quarter. Elmhurst responded with a 10-0 run over the next 2:30 to move in front 17-14. Elmhurst led 19-16 after one quarter and never trailed for the remainder of the game.
 
Elmhurst blew things open in the second quarter, outscoring Illinois College 25-14 to carry a 44-27 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Bluejays led by as many as 22 points in the third quarter before Illinois College closed the gap down to 12 with 8:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. Elmhurst used a 16-7 run over the next five minutes to extend their lead back to 21 points and put the game out of reach.
 
Elmhurst shot 56.5 percent (35-of-62) from the floor, including 44.4 percent (8-of-18) from three-point distance. The Bluejays also dominated on the glass, outrebounding Illinois College 42-32. Kaela Jones led the Bluejays in the victory, finishing with a team-best 19 points. Jones added eight rebounds, six assists, five blocks and four steals in the win. Mikaela Eppard finished one rebound shy of a double-double, totaling 16 points and nine rebounds. Lisa Logan added 16 points, six boards and six assists while Becca Gerke came off the bench to score 10. Jasmin Bailey added eight points for Elmhurst.
 
Illinois College shot 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the floor, including 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from beyond the arc. Shaneen Quehl led the way with 19 points while Brielle Greenleaf added 17.
 
Elmhurst travels to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, November 29.
