ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst volleyball team upped its CCIW record to 3-1 on the season with a three-set sweep of Wheaton College.

Elmhurst (7-9 overall) downed Wheaton 26-24, 25-11, 25-22 to remain in the top half of the CCIW standings.

Elmhurst had to rally to take the opening set. After racing out to a 5-0 lead, the Bluejays fell behind at 18-13 and trailed again at 23-18. The Bluejays ripped off the next six straight points, including five behind the serve of
Amy Schryver. Wheaton (3-15, 0-4 CCIW) fought off a set point at 24-23 to pull even at 24-all, but a kill from
Hannah Davis and an ace from Davis gave the Bluejays the opening set.

Elmhurst quickly took control of the second set, jumping to an 11-6 lead and never looking back, cruising to the 14-point win while hitting .321 in the set.

Elmhurst opened up a five-point lead at 14-9 in the third set only to see the Thunder rally. Wheaton used a 10-5 run to pull even at 19-19 and the set remained tied at 20-20. Elmhurst rattled off three straight points to take a 23-20 lead. Wheaton fought off one match point before an
Alli Rogers kill ended the match for the Bluejays.

Elmhurst hit .257 for the match with 45 kills and 17 errors in 109 attempts. Three Bluejays reached double figures in kills to pace the offense. Davis finished with a team-leading 12 kills while hitting a match-high .423. Rogers finished with 11 kills and eight digs while
Mel Lundin finished with 10 kills.
Allie Skowron added seven kills and three blocks while
Cyle Harrison tallied five kills and a team-best four blocks.
Kelly Townsend totaled 37 assists, nine digs and two aces. Schryver led the squad in digs with 13.

Wheaton hit .102 for the contest with 27 kills and 17 errors in 98 swings. Madeline Moore and Audrey Irwin paced the Thunder with eight kills apiece. Kelly Thornton tallied 26 assists for the Thunder.

Elmhurst takes on the University of Chicago and Otterbein University tomorrow (October 7).
