Volleyball Team Splits Two at Benedictine Tournament

LISLE, Ill. – The Elmhurst volleyball team moved to 10-17 on the season after splitting a pair of matches at the Benedictine University Invitational.
 
Elmhurst opened the day with a three-set sweep of Benedictine before falling in five sets to Greenville College.
 
ELMHURST 3, BENEDICTINE 0 – Elmhurst scored its 10th win of the season by dispatching the tournament hosts in three sets, winning 25-15, 25-16, 27-25.
 
The Bluejays hit over .300 in the first two sets while coasting to a 2-0 lead. Elmhurst opened up a 21-14 lead in the third before the Eagles used a 10-2 run to take a 24-23 lead and set up a set point. The Bluejays fought off the set point. With the score tied at 25-25, the Bluejays used a kill from Alli Rogers and an error on the Eagles to take the set and close out the match.
 
Elmhurst hit .269 for the match with 44 kills and 12 errors in 119 attempts. Hannah Davis powered Elmhurst's offense, finishing with 11 kills while hitting .478. Allie Skowron and Rogers totaled nine kills apiece for Elmhurst. Katie Davis tallied a team-high 30 assists. Davis and Selene Ushela co-led the squad in digs with 13.
 
Taylor Dunwell led the Eagles in the loss with 13 kills. Lauren WIeber finished with nine.
 
GREENVILLE 3, ELMHURST 2 – Elmhurst dropped to 10-17 on the year with a 25-15, 21-25, 22-25, 25-19, 10-15 loss to Greenville.
 
Elmhurst coasted to the first set before Greenville pulled even with a 25-21 win in a tight second set. The Panthers held off a late charge from Elmhurst to take the third set 25-22. The Bluejays pulled out to nine-point lead in the fourth before pulling even with a 25-19 win.
 
In the decisive fifth set, the score was even at 8-8 before Greenville scored four straight points to take a 12-8 lead. Elmhurst closed to within three points at 13-10 but kills from Allyson Mitchell and Abby Freeman sealed the set and the match for Greenville.
 
Rogers paced Elmhurst's offense in the loss, finishing with 17 kills while hitting .245. Davis added 10 kills and four blocks while Skowron totaled nine kills and four blocks. Taylor Zurliene added eight kills and 21 digs. Katie Davis totaled 25 assists while Kelly Townsend added 17. Amy Schryver led the squad in digs with 22.
 
Freeman led Greenville with 19 kills while Mitchell totaled 11.
 
Elmhurst wraps up the regular season portion of its schedule by hosting Illinois Wesleyan University on Tuesday, October 31.
