Bluejay Tennis Team Takes Sixth at CCIW Championships

Box Score GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's tennis team totaled 11.5 points to score a sixth-place finish at the 2017 CCIW Championship.
 
Elmhurst scored 3.5 points for their 2-6 record in CCIW duals during the regular season. The Bluejays totaled eight points during the bracketed CCIW Championship finish with a total of 11.5 points. Wheaton won the team title with 26 points, edging Augustana (25) by just one point.
 
The Bluejays scored three points at No. 3 singles and tacked on two points at No. 4 singles. In doubles play, the Bluejays scored two points at No. 2 doubles and added a point at No. 3 doubles.
 
Rachel Rettger was the top point scorer for the Bluejays, finishing with three points and a 2-2 record in singles play. Rettger won her opening round match at No. 3 singles against Carroll's Tiffany Maggioncalda by a score of 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. Rettger fell 6-4, 6-1 to Augustana's Zeana Badawi in the semifinals. Rettger rebounded from the loss to defeat Millikin's Maggie Ruane 8-3 in the consolation semifinals. Rettger settled for fourth-place after dropping the third-place match to Carthage's Natalie Favia 8-0.
 
At No. 4 singles, Kathryn Wheeler scored two points with a 1-2 record. Wheeler defeated Carthage's Lauren Woznicki 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals before falling 6-0, 6-0 to Augustana's Maleeha Chowdhury in the semifinals. Wheeler fell 8-3 to Carroll's Lora Leach in the consolation semifinals.
 
Elmhurst's No. 2 doubles team of Chiara Gaudio and Wheeler totaled two points and a 1-2 record. The duo defeated Carroll's squad of Leach and Shanna Mogden 8-6. The Bluejays' pair fell 8-2 to top-seeded Miranda Kay/Sara Magnuson of Wheaton in the semifinals before falling 9-7 to Millikin's pairing of Maggie Ruane and Kelly Ruane in the consolation round.
 
The Bluejays duo of Bridget Lopez and Dacey Maglaque scored a point with a 1-2 record at No. 3 doubles. The duo fell 8-0 in the first round to Wheaton's Freeman/Emma Westwick but bounced back to toppled Illinois Wesleyan's pairing of Sam Robinson/Ruffalo in a consolation match. Elmhurst's duo was knocked out of the bracket with an 8-1 loss to Carthage's pair of Anna Spencer/Haeberle.
