Men's Soccer Team Shuts Down Carroll 4-0

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's soccer team kept its CCIW Tournament chances alive by scoring a 4-0 shutout win over Carroll University at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (8-6-2, 3-4 CCIW) outshot Carroll 15-3 in the opening half while building a two-goal lead. Zach Clements totaled two goals and an assist to finish with a team-leading five points in the victory.

Andrew Hicks put Elmhurst on the board just 7:51 into the contest. After a throw in from Elmhurst was cleared off the goal line by Carroll (3-12-1, 1-5 CCIW), the ball came loose to Hicks at the top of the box. Hicks used the traffic in front of the net as a screen to sneak his shot past Carroll keeper Nick Drew and into the net.

The Bluejays made it 2-0 late in the first half. A foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick for the Bluejays. Clements converted on the PK to give the Bluejays a 2-0 lead at the half.

Elmhurst doubled its lead in a five minute span in the second half. Sam Johnson redirected a cross out of the air from JD Garnett and past Drew to give Elmhurst a 3-0 lead. Five minutes later, Jason Rhodes centered a pass that Clements drove out of midair into the upper part of the net.

Nick King recorded his fifth shutout of the season in goal for Elmhurst. King stopped all four shots he faced to record his eighth victory of the season in goal. Drew took the loss for Carroll, surrendering two goals while recording four saves.

Elmhurst outshot Carrol 27-8 in the contest and finished the contest with a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

With the victory, Elmhurst improved to 3-4 in the CCIW, keeping themselves in contention for a spot in the CCIW Tournament with just one CCIW contest remaining.

Elmhurst travels to St. Norbert College on Wednesday, October 25.
