ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's soccer team held Wheaton scoreless for over 80 minutes of action before falling 2-0 to the Thunder on a rain-soaked Langhorst Field.
Â
Elmhurst (7-4, 2-3 CCIW) struggled to get going offensively as the Bluejays could not muster a shot against the Thunder. Despite the offensive struggles, the Bluejays held Wheaton (6-7, 3-0-1 CCIW) at bay for the majority of the contest.
Â
Wheaton put eight shots on goal in the first half, but
Sophia Tuliglowski stopped all eight preserving the shutout at the half. Tuliglowksi and the Elmhurst defenders made save after save for the first 30 minutes to keep the game scoreless.
The Thunder finally broke through with just over eight minutes left on the clock. Isabelle Oliver collected a Chelsea Gnan pass and broke into the box from the far side. Tuliglowski dove and got her hands on the shot, but the ball trickled over the goal line to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later Izzy McNally tucked a shot into the upper corner of the net for a Wheaton insurance goal.
Â
Tuliglowski recorded 13 saves in the contest despite taking the loss in net for Elmhurst.
Â
The Bluejays travel to Concordia University (Wis.) on Saturday, October 14.
