Men's Soccer Team Plays Dominican to Scoreless Draw

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team played Dominican University to a 0-0 draw in the Bluejays' home-opening contest at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst moved to 2-0-1 on the season while Dominican moved to 0-1-1.

Elmhurst outshot Dominican 13-10 but the Bluejays couldn't break through. The Bluejays' had a chance early in the first half when Alec Gnass headed a corner kick towards the top of the goal. Dominican keeper Gabriel Gongora made a leaping save to deflect the ball over the cross bar.

The Bluejays had a few open looks early in the second half but pushed shots wide of the net.

Dominican's best chance of the game came in the 82nd minute when Isaac Perez's free kick was saved by Elmhurst keeper Donnie Kvien. The rebound came loose to the Stars' Nicolo Vitale at the goal line, but Elmhurst's defense blocked his shot attempt to keep the game scoreless.

The Bluejays had a chance just two minutes later when Andrew Hicks' header clipped the right post and the cross bar.

Kvien earned his third straight shutout of the season by stopping all four shots he faced. Gongora tallied five saves for the Stars.

Elmhurst travels to Wheaton's Bob Baptista Invitational on September 9-10 to face Kalamazoo and John Carroll.
