STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team improved to 9-4 on the season and recorded its third consecutive victory with a three-set sweep of University of Wisconsin-Stout at the CCIW/WIAC Challenge.
Elmhurst upended UW-Stout 27-25, 25-21, 25-22 and in the process gave head coach
Julie Hall her 599th career victory.
Elmhurst never trailed in the opening set, building a quick 7-2 lead before fending off a late charge from UW-Stout. Stout pulled even at 19-19, but a 3-0 run gave Elmhurst a 22-19 cushion. The Bluejays had three set points at 24-21, but Stout fought off all three to even the set at 24-24. Stout turned away a fourth Elmhurst set point at 25-24 to knot the score at 25-all, but a kill from
Alli Rogers and a block from
Mary Lawrence and
Hannah Nimrick gave Elmhurst the opening set at 27-25.Â
The Bluejays raced out to a quick lead in the second set, opening with a 16-8 lead. Stout managed to pull to within three points at 24-21, but a kill from Nimrick gave Elmhurst a two-set advantage.
With the third set even at 13-13, Elmhurst used a 5-1 run to take an 18-14 lead, but Stout responded with an 8-4 of its own to pull even at 22-22 after a kill from Elle Hagstrom. A kill from Lawrence, an error on stout and a service ace from Rogers gave Elmhurst the final three points of the set as the Bluejays closed out the match in three sets.
Melissa Nava and
Mel Lundin powered the Bluejays' offense, finishing with 11 kills apiece in the victory. Lawrence added seven kills and five blocks while Rogers chipped in with seven kills. Nimrick totaled 16 assists and 10 digs while
Amy Schryver registered a team-best 14 digs.
Selene Ushela also reached double figures in digs with 11.
Ashley Pratt led Stout (8-6) with nine kills in the loss. Olivia Jung added eight while Jessica DuVal totaled a team-leading 22 assists.Â
Elmhurst wraps up the CCIW/WIAC Challenge by facing Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 2:00 p.m. A win by the Bluejays would be the 600th victory of
Julie Hall's career.Â
