ELMHURST, Ill. –
Emma Krick's header in overtime propelled the Bluejays over Lake Forest 1-0.
The victory extended Elmhurst's winning streak to seven, including four consecutive 1-0 results.
In the fifth minute of overtime,
Kim Stanczak sent a corner kick towards the far post. Krick came barreling in from the far side and buried the header inside the near upper 90, setting off the celebration at Langhorst Field.
The teams played a scoreless first half, but both sides had solid chances. In the 15th minute, Katelyn Hronek of the Foresters (3-4) headed a shot towards goal that was saved by
Emily Gordon, but the rebound loomed in the box dangerously before Elmhurst was able to clear it. The Bluejays (7-0) had only three shots, but were also called for three offside penalties in the opening half and had near chances stifled by the Lake Forest defense.
Elmhurst outshot the Foresters in the second half 5-2, but neither team was able to find the net. The best chance came from
Jami Lessila, who fired a volley from distance that was steered wide by Lake Forest goalkeeper Rachel Tenuta.
Lake Forest had the first shot of overtime before Krick ended the game with her header.
Elmhurst outshot the Foresters 10-7, including 6-2 in shots on goal. The Bluejays were also called for offsides eight times.
Gordon stopped two shots in the first half before
Sophia Tuliglowski took over and eventually was credited with the win. Lake Forest's Tenuta recorded five saves in the loss.
Elmhurst looks to continue their winning ways when they travel to St. Catherine University this Sunday, September 24.
