ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2016 season after falling 2-1 in double overtime to St. Catherine University.Â
A goal from Iryna Talkachova with just 24 seconds left to play in the second overtime gave St. Catherine the one-goal victory.
Elmhurst (7-1) struck first as Sidney O'Keefe scored off a
Brittany Reinhart assist just 8:24 into the contest. The Bluejays' lead did not last long as Hannah Okerstrom scored off assists from Kaitlin Machovec and Nicole Palsgove just one minute later.Â
The game game remained deadlocked at 1-1 for the next 100 minutes until Talkachova netted the game-winner with time running out.
St. Catherine outshot Elmhurst 33-12 in the contest, including 27-5 after halftime. St. Catherine also held a 13-3 edge in corner kicks.
Emily Gordon and
Sophia Tuliglowski both played goal for the Bluejays. Gordon played the opening half and recorded two saves while allowing one goal. Tuliglowski played the final 65 minutes, allowing one goal while recording nine saves. Shelby Fehringer earned the win in goal for St. Catherine after recording four saves over the final 65 minutes.
Elmhurst opens CCIW play by hosting Augustana College on Wednesday, September 28.Â
