WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team, ranked 23rd in the latest AVCA Division III national poll, improved to 2-0 in the CCIW by scoring a four-set win over Carroll University. 

Elmhurst (7-4 overall) downed Carroll 24-26, 26-24, 25-18, 25-13 to stay unbeaten in CCIW play.

Elmhurst trailed for much of the opening set, falling behind by as many as four points at 20-16. Caroll opened up a 24-21 lead, but three straight points from the Bluejays knotted the score at 24-all. Kills from Dana Voltolina and Amanda Hahn gave Carroll the opening set 26-24.

The Bluejays started quickly in the second, building a 5-0 lead, but Carroll answered back with a 16-10 lead to take a 16-15 lead. With the score even at 22-22, Elmhurst used a kill and a block from Hannah Nimrick to take a 24-22 lead. Carroll fought off two set points to pull level at 24-all, but a service error and attack error on the Pioneers gave Elmhurst the second set at 26-24.

Elmhurst raced out to a quick lead in the third set, starting with a 13-4 run to build a quick nine-point cushion. Carroll pulled to within five points at 21-16, but the Pioneers came no closer as Elmhurst closed out the set 25-18.

The Bluejays scored the first seven points of the fourth set and never looked back. Elmhurst led by as 12 points at 21-9 before closing out the set and the match with a 25-13 victory.

Elmhurst finished the match with a .367 attacking percentage with 54 kills and 14 errors in 109 swings. Mel Lundin led Elmhurst in the victory, totaling a match-high 13 kills while hitting a whopping .650. Melissa Nava added 11 kills and two blocks while Nimrick tallied 35 assists, nine kills and six digs. Amy Schryver tallied a team-best 20 digs while Mary Lawrence totaled seven kills and three blocks. Hannah Davis added eight kills for the Bluejays.

Cassidy Mrotek paced Carroll in the loss with 13 kills and 14 digs. Voltolina added 10 kills while Hahn finished with nine. The Pioneers hit .220 with 47 kills and 20 errors in 123 attempts.

Elmhurst plays at the CCIW/WIAC crossover this weekend (September 23-24).
