ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team won its second consecutive CCIW contest by defeating Illinois Wesleyan University 8-1 at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Elmhurst (2-3, 2-2 CCIW) swept the three doubles matches and took five of the six singles matches en route to the victory.
Ava Kolman and Rachel Retger toppled Lauren Neitzel and Dana Dray 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while Chaira Gaudio and
Dacey Maglaque edged Brianna Dao and Gai Mar 9-8 at No. 2.
Hannah Vaselaney and
Kathryn Wheeler combined for an 8-4 win over Megan Hippe and Sam Robinson at No. 3 doubles.
Illinois Wesleyan (1-4, 0-3 CCIW) scored its only point of the day at No. 1 singles when Neitzel edged Kolman in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). The Bluejays swept the remaining five matches to close out the eight-point victory. Gaudio toppled Dray 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 2 while Rettger upended Dao 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Tori Liwergen uppended Hippe 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles while Vaselaney dealt Gail Mar a 6-4, 6-1 loss at No. 5 singles. Wheeler dispatched Robinson 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst plays at Wheaton College on Tuesday, September 20.
