ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team dropped its 2016 CCIW opener after falling 7-2 to Carroll University.
Carroll (6-3, 1-1 CCIW) won two-out-of-three doubles matches and took five of the six singles matches en route to the win.
Carroll's Lauren Mikentac and Alison Lambrecht edged Elmhurst's
Ava Kolman and
Rachel Rettger 9-7 in a tightly-contested No. 1 doubles contest. Elmhurst's duo of
Chiara Gaudio and
Dacey Maglaque upended Carroll's Megan Krzewinski and Tiff Maggioncalda 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Carroll took a 2-1 lead into singles play after Shanna Mogden and Lauren Goebel downed Elmhurst's
Hannah Vaselaney and Camill Knapik-Balch 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst (0-2, 0-1 CCIW) scored its only point in singles play at No. 1 after Kolman dispatched Miketinac 6-3, 6-2. Carroll swept the five remaining matches to score the 7-2 win. Krzewinski downed Gaudio 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Mogden scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rettger at No. 3. Ambrecht toppled
Tori Liewergen 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Goebel needed three sets to upend Elmhurst's
Skye Palumbo (6-0, 4-6, 10-7). Maggioncalda closed out singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vaselaney at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst continues CCIW play tomorrow (September 11), by hosting Carthage College.
