ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's soccer team opened its 2016 season by doubling up Dominican University 4-2 at Langhorst Field.
Kim Stanczak scored a pair of goals while
Brittany Reinhart and
Emma Krick also found the back of the net to lead the Bluejays to the two-goal victory.
Reinhart put the Bluejays on the scoreboard first, knocking in a centering pass from
Courtney O'Keeffe in the 17th minute.
Dominican pulled even nine minutes later on a Josseline Williams rebound goal. Nina Izzo had a shot in front that was saved by Elmhurst keeper
Emily Gordon, but Williams pounced on the rebound to level the score at 1-1.
The Bluejays broke the tie just before the half as Stanczak scored her first of two goals with 1:04 left on the clock.
Sidney O'Keeffe worked around a defender and sent a centering pass to Stanczak for a wide open look in front.
The Bluejays made it 3-1 in the 57th minute when
Emma Krick found the top part of the net from 25 yards out. Stanczak scored her second goal of the contest just 3:30 later, scoring from 30 yards out after collecting a pass from
Sidney O'Keeffe.
Dominican sliced the lead down to two on a Lexi Riotis goal in the 75th minute, but the Stars came no closer as Elmhurst held on for the 4-2 victory.
Elmhurst (1-0) outshot Dominican (0-1) 11-6 in the contest and a 5-0 edge on corner kicks.
Gordon made the start in goal for the Bluejays and recorded four saves and allowed just one goal while playing the opening half.
Sophia Tuliglowski played the second half and allowed just one goal. Pamela Ruiz took the loss for Dominican after allowing four goals and three assists.
Elmhurst hosts Olivet College on Saturday, September 3, at 2:00 p.m.
