Bluejays Shutout at Dominican

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team struggled offensively in a 7-0 loss to Dominican University.

The Stars (12-16) took the lead with one in the second before adding on two in the fourth and four in the sixth.

The Bluejays (16-13) often found themselves with runners in scoring position, but could not cash in. In total, Elmhurst left nine on base in the loss.

In the first, Reagan McReynolds and Brandon Kressner both walked and McReynolds moved to third on a flyout from Havel. With just one away and McReynolds 90 feet away, a strikeout and a ground out ended the threat.

As the Stars took the lead in the second, starting pitcher Ryan Brown settled down, sitting down 11 in a row. Brown finished five innings and allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out two.

Meanwhile the Stars sent eight to the plate in the fourth and scored two on a JT Hicks two-RBI single. Austin MacMillan relieved Ryan Millan (3.2 innings, seven hits, three runs) to halt the threat and keep the score 3-0.

In the sixth, two singles and a sacrifice fly accounted for the four Dominican runs. Elmhurst threatened in the seventh and the ninth, but stranded two in each inning.

Christian Ott was the only Bluejay to record two hits, going 2-for-2. McReynolds, A.J. Compton, Jacob McMillan, and Evan Berliner recorded the other four Bluejay base-knocks. MacMillan tossed 1.2 innings and allowed three runs, while Christian Grabowski tossed 2.2 innings of one-run ball. Both Elmhurst relievers struck out three.

Hicks and Lucas McKinney both finished with and two RBIs to lead Dominican offensively. The Stars' bullpen combined to allow just four hits in four shutout innings.

Elmhurst continues CCIW play with a doubleheader against Carthage College this Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
