RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team moved to 13-15 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Concordia University-Chicago. Elmhurst won the opener 5-1 before falling 11-3 in game two.
ELMHURST 5, CONCORDIA 1 (Game One) - Elmhurst scored four runs in the second inning and
Stefanie Sanidas pitched a complete game to lead the Bluejays to the 5-1 win in game one.
Bekah Ondracek started the scoring for the Bluejays with a solo homer. An RBI double from
Nicky Giambalvo and a two-run single from
Crystal Marinelli capped the Bluejays' four-run second inning.Â
Concordia scored a run in the third to slice the lead down to three, but the Bluejays tacked on an insurance run in the fourth to earn the four-run victory.
Bri Getzloff powered the Bluejays' offense with three hits while Ondracek and Giambalvo collected two hits apiece.Â
Sanidas improved to 9-4 on the season from the circle, working all seven innings and scattering 11 hits, one walk and one run while striking out two.Â
CONCORDIA 11, ELMHURST 3 (Game Two) - Concordia turned a one-run deficit into an eight-run victory, by scoring nine runs in the third inning.
Trailing 2-0 entering the third, the Bluejays took advantage of a Concordia-error to push home three runs in the top of the third.
Mikayla Melone fueled the inning for the Bluejays with a key, two-out, two-run single.Â
Elmhurst's lead was short-lived as the Cougars sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring nine runs and blowing the game open. Meghan Johnson delivered the key blow in the inning with a grand slam home run.Â
Johnson drove in six of the Cougars' 11 runs in the victory, finishing a perfect 3-of-3 from the plate.Â
Melone recorded two of Elmhurst's five hits in the loss and drove in two runs.Â
Sanidas made the start and took the loss and earned a no-decision.
Val Perrelli was tagged for the loss, surrendering five hits and eight runs in one inning.
Elmhurst travels to Augustana on Saturday, April 23.Â
