ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team slipped to 12-16 on the season after dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Illinois Wesleyan University.
Elmhurst (2-6 CCIW) suffered a 10-2 loss in game one and dropped the second game 7-2.
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 10, ELMHURST 2 (Game One) - Illinois Wesleyan banged out 18 hits while the Bluejays were limited to just two as the Titans scored a 10-2 victory in game one.
Illinois Wesleyan grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning but Elmhurst answered back in the bottom of the frame.
Crystal Marinelli roped a one-out triple to right and then scored on
Stephanie Hintz's sacrifice fly.
The Titans pushed home a run in the third and two in the fourth to go in front 4-1. Elmhurst pulled to within two in the bottom of the fourth after
Mikayla Melone walked to lead off the inning and later came home to score on an Illinois Wesleyan error.
The Titans pulled away in the later innings, scoring a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh to make the final score 10-2.
Elmhurst managed just two hits in the loss with Marinellis and
Bri Getzloff totaling one hit apiece. The Titans banged out 18 hits in the victory with Sam Gudat leading the way with a 4-for-5 day at the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Stefanie Sanidas took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing 11 hits and four earned runs in 4.0 innings of work. She did not allow a walk and struck out two. Jenna Noland earned the win for the Titans, tossing six innings and scattering two hits and two runs (one earned). She walked three and struck out seven.
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 7, ELMHURST 2 (Game Two) – Illinois Wesleyan scored seven runs in the first two innings and held the Bluejays for six innings en route to the doubleheader sweep.
The Titans took advantage of four walks and an error in the first inning to plate three unearned runs. The Tirans used the long ball in the second to score four runs. Dani Smith smacked a three-run homer and Julie Josten cracked solo blast to put the Titans in front 7-0.
Elmhurst broke the shutout in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on a wild pitch and adding another on a
Stephanie Sturino sacrifice fly.
Val Perrelli made the start and took the loss for the Bluejays, working 2.0 innings and allowing four hits and seven runs (just two earned). She walked two and struck out five. Sanidas pitched four scoreless innings of relief in the loss. Allie Tarrant pitched the final five innings in relief for Illinois Wesleyan to earn the victory. She allowed five hits and two earned runs.
Elmhurst travels to Concordia University-Chicago on Wednesday, April 20.
