JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team used an offensive onslaught to sweep a doubleheader against Lawrence University.
The Bluejays (3-0) scored 31 total runs in the two games, defeating the Vikings (1-3) 19-3 and 12-2. Elmhurst's total of 31 runs in Sunday's doubleheader is the most since the Bluejays' record-breaking performance against Wheaton College on April 21, 2007.

Brandon KressnerBrandon Kressner and
Greg Struck both homered twice as the Bluejays totaled 19 hits and scored four or more runs in three of their six innings at the plate.Â
Kressner's first home run put Elmhurst up by one after an inning and a four-run second put the Bluejays in control. With two away,
Trey Compton walked and
Matt Conroy knocked him in with a triple, a
Travis Pickard base knock drove in Conroy. McReynolds reached on an error, scoring Pickard and then Kressner drove in McReylonds with a base hit.Â

Greg StruckStruck homered in the third and Elmhurst added four more in the fourth inning despite no extra base hits. Havel (RBI),

Trey Compton (RBI), and Conroy (RBI) all recorded singles in the inning.Â
Elmhurst starter
Ben Havel allowed just one hit in his first four innings, but ran into some trouble in the fifth. With Elmhurst leading 10-0, Havel allowed a bases-clearing triple to Lawrence's Cole Eriksen. Havel finished 4.2 innings, allowing three runs and striking out five in a no decision.Â
The Bluejays continued the pile on runs, scoring seven in the fifth and two in the sixth. Kressner started the offense in the fifth with a two-run home run. With one away, nine straight Bluejays reached base, including an RBI singles from
Christian Ott and
Travis Pickard, an RBI doubled from McReynolds, and a two-RBI double from Conroy. Struck's second home run and a Pickard sacrifice fly accounted for the final two Elmhurst runs.Â
Kressner led the Bluejays with four RBIs in the game and reached base in all four at bats, while Conroy added four RBIs and Pickard tallied three. Four different Bluejays (Kressner, Struck,
Trey Compton, and Conroy) finished with three hits.Â
Justin Luzzi (win) and
Chris Eberhart both held strong out of the bullpen in the sixth and seventh, combining to allow just one hit and no runs.Â

Ben HavelHavel, Ott, and
Matt Wilson all finished with three RBIs as Elmhurst completed a 3-0 weekend with another big victory over the Vikings.Â
McReynolds manufactured the first run of the day for Elmhurst, walking, stealing second, moving to third on a Kressner flyout, and scoring on a Havel ground out.Â
The Bluejays pulled away with a five-run third inning, aided by two Lawrence errors. Two of Elmhurst's three hits did the damage as
A.J. Compton's two-RBI double scored Havel and McReynolds before Wilson's three-run home run put Elmhurst ahead 6-0.Â
Once again, an Elmhurst starter tossed a brilliant first four innings, but gave up runs in the fifth.
Austin MacMillan allowed a solo shot to Lawrence's Anthony Ortiz before an error allowed a second unearned run to cross the plate. The Bluejay bullpen finished off a scoreless day with 2.1 total innings coming from
Mike Rostine and
Kiko Mari.Â
Elmhurst put the game away in the sixth, scoring all six runs with two outs. With the bases loaded, Havel and Struck both notched two-RBI singles. Later in the inning, Ott launched a two-run home run to give Elmhurst its final runs of the day in style.Â
Seven Bluejays contributed with hits, including two from Struck and
A.J. Compton, while Ott and Wilson both hit their first home runs of the season.Â
This weekend, Elmhurst outscored its opponents 43-14.Â
The Bluejays play four more games in Jacksonville, Ill. next weekend, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. first pitch against the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, March 12.Â
