ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Elmhurst softball team upped its record to 10-6 on the season by sweeping a doubleheader from Beloit College at The Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont.
Elmhurst scored a 6-3 victory in game one and finished the sweep of the Buccaneers with an 8-1 win in game two.
ELMHURST 6, BELOIT 3 (Game One) – Elmhurst pounded out 11 hits and rode a strong pitching performance from
Stefanie Sanidas to a 6-3 victory in the opener.
The Bluejays needed little time to get on the scoreboard, plating two runs in the opening frame.
Brianna Thompson tripled in
Lauren Rismondo to start the scoring. Thompson scored on
Bekah Ondracek's RBI double to give Elmhurst a 2-0 cushion.
Morganne Evans tripled home a run in the second to give Elmhurst a three-run cushion. A groundout from Evans scored a run in the fourth and Ondracek doubled home a pair of runs in the same inning to put the Bluejays up 6-0.
Sanidas cruised through the first five innings, retiring the first 13 batters she faced, including eight consecutive strikeouts from the first through the third inning. She ran into trouble in the sixth as Beloit plated three runs, sparked by a two-run triple from Tati Rodriguez. Stefanie Sturino entered the game to retire the final two outs of the sixth. Sanidas re-entered the contest and pitched a perfect seventh inning to end the contest.
Ondracek powered the Bluejays at theplate, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Evans added two hits and drove in two while
Lauren Rismondo finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Sanidas improved to 6-2 with the victory from the circle. She tossed 6.1 innings and allowed just five hits and three runs while walking one and striking out a season-high 12 batters.
ELMHURST 8, BELOIT 1 (Game Two) – The Bluejays scored four runs in the second and four in the fourth to finish the sweep of the Buccaneers with an 8-1 win in game two.
Beloit struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Bluejays answered back with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Mikayla Melone started the scoring with a run-scoring double. Sturino followed with an RBI double to give Elmhurst a 2-1 lead.
Stephanie Hintz singled home a run and
Bri Getzloff followed with an RBI triple to give the Bluejays a 4-1 lead.
Elmhurst broke the game wide open in the fourth with four more runs.
Nicky Giambalvo started the scoring with a bunt single to drive in a run. Rismondo roped a double to the wall in left field to drive in two more runs and a ground out from Melone scored the Bluejays' final run of the game.
Getzloff finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Bluejays at the plate. Rismondo, Melone and Giambalvo all finished with two hits apiece at the plate. Rismondo scored a pair of runs and drove in two while Melone drove in two and scored a run. Giambalvo drove in one and scored a run.
Val Perrelli made the start and took a no-decision, working three innings and allowing four hits and one run. She walked one and fanned one. Sturino earned the win in relief, tossing four scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits in the process while fanning five batters.

Elmhurst hosts Loras College on Saturday, April 2, at The Stadium at the Ballpark in Rosemont. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.Â
