LISLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst softball team slipped to 10-8 on the season after dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Benedictine University. The Bluejays were shutout 8-0 in game one and blanked 13-0 in the night cap.
BENEDICTINE 8, ELMHURST 0 (Game One) - Elmhurst was limited to just two hits in an 8-0 loss in the opening game of the twinbill.
Benedictine (13-7) scored a pair of runs in the third to take an early 2-0 lead. Elmhurst put runners at second and third with two outs in the fifth, but came up empty. The Eagles put the game away in six nnings by scoring three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn the eight-run victory.
Crystal Marinelli and
Bri Getzloff recorded Elmhurst's only hits in the loss. Kailee Cable led Benedictine with two hits and three RBIs. Shannon Fritsche added two hits and scored three times for the Eagles.
Stefanie Sanidas took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in five innings of work. She walked three and fanned one. Holly Haberkor earned the win for the Eagles, allowing just two hits and one walk in six innings of work.
BENEDICTINE 13, ELMHURST 0 (Game Two) - Benedictine scored eight runs in the second inning en route to a 13-0 five-inning win.
The Eagles sent 12 batters to the plate in the second and banged out six hits while blowing open a scoreless game with eight runs. The Eagles tacked on four runs in the third and another in the fourth to score the 13-run victory.
Elmhurst managed just three hits in the loss. The Bluejays' defense committed five errors, resulting in 12 of the Eagles' 13 runs scoring as unearned runs.

Faith Thompson and Getzloff finished with a hit apiece in the loss.
Stephanie Sturino took the loss for Elmhurst, surrendering nine hits and 12 runs (just one earned) in three innings of work. She walked two in the loss. Meliss Guzior earned the win for the Eagles, tossing a complete game shutout with three hits and two strikeouts in five innings.
Elmhurst opens CCIW play on Thursday, April 7, by hosting Wheaton College.
