ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst's six-game winning streak came to an end in its home opener, a 5-2 loss to Rockford.

The Regents (7-8) did all their damage in the first three innings. Despite many baserunners, the Bluejays (11-4) struggled to hit with men on base and left 12 on base.

Both teams got on the board in the first inning. Robert Smith started off the game with a double and moved to third on an Austin Smith ground out. Later in the inning, Ryan Scarpetta singled R. Smith home to make the score 1-0. Elmhurst starter
Ryan Millan limited further damage by stranding the bases loaded.

The Bluejays tied the score at one when
A.J. Compton walked with the bases loaded, but Elmhurst could not cash in for more to take the lead.

Rockford took control with four runs over the next two innings. A. Smith and Evan Frantini both hit run-scoring doubles. Then, R. Smith tacked on a two-RBI single in the third.

After a long scoreless stretch, Elmhurst looked prime for a comeback in the seventh.
Chris Eberhart walked,
A.J. Compton singled to left field, and
Austin MacMillan loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. The next batter,
Trey Compton drove in Eberhart with a deep fly to center, but the Bluejays could not cash in with any more runs as Daryl Rovera grounded into a 1-6-3 inning-ending double play.

The Regents' pitching staff did not allow a baserunner in the final two innings of the game.

Mike Rostine kept the game close with seven innings out of the Elmhurst bullpen. He allowed two runs in his first inning of work (third), but tossed six scoreless the rest of the way. Elmhurst starter
Ryan Millan took the loss for the Bluejays, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings.

Regent pitching limited the Bluejays to just six hits.
Brandon Kressner and
A.J. Compton both finished with two, while the Compton brothers both tallied an RBI for Elmhurst.

A. Smith finished with three hits, while R. Smith knocked in two for the Regents. Rockford starter Thomas Boren walked eight in 4.2 innings, but only allowed one run. Tyler Joyce earned the win, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing two hits and one run. Michael Murray notched the save with a scoreless ninth.

Elmhurst looks to get back to its winning ways when the Bluejays travel to the University of Chicago tomorrow, Wednesday, March 30 for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.Â
