Softball Team Wraps Florida Trip with Split

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team closed out its 12-game Florida road trip with a 6-6 record after splitting games with Southern Maine and St. Cartherine. Elmhurst scored a 5-4 walk-off win over Southern Maine before falling 11-2 to St. Catherine.

ELMHURST 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 4 - Bekah Ondracek delivered a walk-off, game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh to propel the Bluejays to a 5-4 victory over Southern Maine.

A solo homer from Morganne Evans in the first tied the game at 1-1 and Brianna Thompson's two-run homer in the third evened the score at 3-3. The Bluejays took advantage of a Southern Maine error in the sixth to go in front 4-3, but Southern Maine capitalized on an Elmhurst error in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 4-4.

Evans walked with one out and the bases empty in the bottom of the seventh. After a pop-out, Thompson doubled to move Evans to third and Ondracek followed with the game-winning hit.

Thompson and Ondracek finished with two hits apiece in the win. Thompson drove in two and scored two runs while Evans scored three times for the Bluejays.

Stefanie Sanidas earned the win for the Bluejays, tossing a complete game and allowing just six hits and four runs (two earned). She walked one and fanned three while improving to 4-2 on the season.

ST. CATHERINE 11, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst closed out its road trip with a .500 record after falling 11-2 to St. Catherine.

Trailing 1-0 , St. Catherine (12-0) belted three homers in a six-run second inning to blow the game open.

Thompson led the Bluejays at the plate in the loss, collecting two of the team's three hits. She drove in Elmhurst's run in the first inning with an RBI double and cracked a solo home run in the third to account for the Bluejays' final run of the contest.

Robyn Rohr paced St. Catherine, finishing 2-for-4 with seven RBIs, including a grand slam in the second inning.

Megan Lindenfelser was dominant for St. Catherine, working six innings and allowing just three hits and two runs. She walked three and struck out 13, including the final seven batters she faced.

Stephanie Sturino (1-3) took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs in three innings of work. She walked one and struck out three.

The Bluejays take on Dominican University on March 28 at The Stadium at the Ballpark in Rosemont.
