Elmhurst Softball Team Falls to Buena Vista & Grinnell

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Elmhurst softball team slipped to 4-4 on the season following losses to Buena Vista and Grinnell at the NTC Spring Games in Florida.

The Bluejays suffered an 8-0 setback to Buena Vista to open the day before falling 9-2 to Grinnell to close the day.

BUENA VISTA 8, ELMHURST 0 - Elmhurst was limited to just four hits as Buena Vista used a five-run sixth inning to pull away for the eight-run victory.

Buena Vista (8-5) scored a run in the first and added two in the third before putting the game away with the five-run sixth inning.

Bri Getzloff recorded two of the Bluejays' four hits in the loss to lead the squad at the plate.

Stefanie Sanidas too the loss for the Bluejays, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings of work. She struck out four while not issuing a walk.

GRINNELL 9, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst slipped to 4-4 on the year following a seven-run loss to Grinnell. The Bluejays were once again done in by big inning from their opponent. Grinnell batted around in the first inning and scored seven runs to put the Bluejays in an early hole.

Elmhurst got a run back in the second on Getlzoff RBI groundout. The Bluejays sliced the lead down to five in the third inning on a Morganne Evans RBI single, but Grinnell tacked on two insurance runs in the fourth to pull away for the 9-2 win. 

Val Perrelli made the start and took the loss, working 2.2 innings and allowing five hits and seven runs. She walked five while striking out two. Stefanie Sanidas pitched 4.1 innings in relief allowing three hits and two runs. Sanidas walked three and fanned three.

Elmhurst has tomorrow off, but returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 23, to face Wisconsin-Stevens Point and D'Youville.
