ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst wrestling team improved to 3-0 in dual meets with a 36-11 victory over Concordia University (Wis.).
 
The Bluejays (3-0) won the first four bouts of the evening to take control. Anthony Munoz used three sets of two back points in the second period to start the night with a 13-5 major decision win over Matthew Saldana. After Jared Braun took a forfeit at 133, Ronnie Hauser gave the Bluejays six more points by pinning Miguel Betancourt at 141. Caleb Ramos continued the Elmhurst momentum, building a 7-2 lead in the first five minutes and then riding out the third period to win 8-2.
 
The Falcons (2-2) earned their first win of the night in dramatic fashion. Trailing by a point late in the third period, Elmhurst's Gunnar Hjorth used an escape with 12 seconds to go to tie the score at five. Concordia's Eli Were converted a takedown in the final seconds to win 7-5.
 
Elmhurst's Tim Noverini (165) and Concordia's Mason Mergener (174) both finished off first-period technical falls at their respective weight classes. At 184, Leo Ortiz pinned Alex Montbriand in 2:38 and then Mark Miller won by forfeit at 197.
 
In the 285-pound bout, both Concordia's John Hinson and Elmhurst's Scott Helton converted escapes, but Hinson's riding time advantage gave him the 2-1 win.
