Strong Second Half Lifts Bluejays Past Carroll

WUAKESHA, Wis. – A strong second half lifted the Elmhurst men's basketball team to a 69-56 road win at Carroll University.
 
Trailing by a point at halftime, Elmhurst exploded in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 45-31 in the game's final 20 minutes while shooting over 80.0 percent from the field. Elmhurst upped its record to 3-4 overall while evening its CCIW record at 1-1 with the win. Carroll slipped to 4-2 overall and lost their CCIW debut.
 
Elmhurst started strong, building a 24-12 with 8:20 remaining after a Derek Dotlich three-pointer. The Bluejays went cold though for the duration of the half as Carroll used a 13-0 run to close the half and build a 25-24 lead in the process.
 
Elmhurst quickly pulled even at 30-30 in the second half and then took the game over. The Bluejays used a 24-2 run over the next eight minutes to open up a commanding 22-point cushion at 54-32. The Bluejays led by as many as 23 points and coasted the final eight minutes to the 13-point victory.
 
Elmhurst shot a whopping 60.4 percent from the floor, hitting 29-of-48 shots from the field. The Bluejays were on fire in the second half, posting a blistering 81.8 field goal percentage while hitting 18-of-22 shots. The Bluejays struggled from long range, hitting just 2-of-12 from three-point distance. Elmhurst dominated the game inside, outscoring Carroll 44-14 in the pain while outrebounding the Pioneers 38-21. Elmhurst also turned 17 Carroll turnovers into 26 points in the win.
 
Four players reached double figures in scoring in a balanced offensive attack. Dotlich led the charge for the Bluejays with a season-high 17 points while also collecting a team-best eight rebounds. Caleb Mowry added 12 points and seven rebounds while Jalen Loving and Chris Parrelli totaled 10 points apiece for the Bluejays. Ryan Patton added seven points while Nathan Rogers scored six for Elmhurst.
 
Carroll ended the game shooting just 30.6 percent the floor (15-of-49), including 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from three-point range. Ben Widdles paced Carroll with 20 points while shooting 7-of-13 from the floor. Nick Penny added 11 points while Tyler Ingebrigtsen and Kyle Keranen added eight points apiece.
 
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, December 13. Tip-off against the Titans is slated for 4:00 p.m.
