Bluejays Hammer Greenville 86-50

DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's basketball team upped its record to 2-0 by blowing out Greenville College 86-50 in the opening game of the CCIW/SLIAC Challenge at Millikin University.

After a tight opening quarter, the Buejays dominated the game for the final 30 minutes, outscoring Greenville (1-1) 71-36 over the last three quarters. 

Trailing by a point early in the second quarter, a Mikaela Eppard layup gave the Bluejays the lead for good as Elmhurst used a 14-3 run over the next five minutes to grab a 10-point cushion. Elmhurst carried a 39-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.

An 11-0 run midway through the third quarter extended Elmhurst's lead to 20 points at 53-33. The Bluejays continued to pull away for the duration of the game en route to the 36-point victory. 

Elmhurst shot 47.7 percent (31-of-65) from the floor and made the most out of Greenville's mistakes. The Panters turned the ball over 28 times, resulting in 36 points for the Bluejays. Elmhurst remained hot from downtown, hitting 50 percent (11-of-20) of its three-point attempts. Elmhurst also enjoyed a +13 advantage on the glass, outrebounding Greenville 37-24. 

Eppard and Michaela Kumer paced a balanced Elmhurst attack in the victory, finishing with 14 points apiece. Kalia Summerlin also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points, hitting 3-of-4 from downtown. Kaela Jones and Lisa Logan added nine points apiece while Erika Johnson and Hannah Henderson tallied seven points each. Jasmin Bailey and Becca Gerke scored six points each while Hannah Lipman finished with four points and five rebounds for Elmhurst.

Greenville shot 37.2 percent (16-of-43) from the field, but just 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from three-point range. Wesley Woodard led the Panthers in the loss with 12 points.

Elmhurst closes out the two-day tournament by taking on Westminster College (Mo.) tomorrow (November 19).
