ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team moved to 4-5 overall after splitting a pair of matches on the road.
Elmhurst opened the day with an 8-1 loss to Augustana College before rebounding to defeat St. Ambrose University 7-2.Â
AUGUSTANA 8, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst slipped to 2-4 in the CCIW after falling to Augustana 8-1.
The Vikings swept the three doubles contests and took five of the six singles matches en route to the victory.
Dana Goggin and Caitlyn Schaffer defeated Elmhurst's
Rachel Rettger and
Ava Kolman 8-4 at No.1 doubles. Lauren Goggin and Zeana Badawi defeated the Bluejays' #2 team of
Chiara Gaudio and
Dacey Maglaque 8-4. Vicki Andonova and Madeline Lombardi upended Elmhurst's
Kathryn Wheeler and
Hannah Vaselaney 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.Â
In singles play, Lauren Goggin downed Kolman 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 while Dana Goggin defeated Gaudio 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Schaffer scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Rettger at No. 3 singles while Badawi downed
Tori Liewergen 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Andonova toppled Vaselaney 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Elmhurst scored its only win at No. 6 singles when Wheeler defeated Lombardi 6-2, 7-5.Â
ELMHURST 7, ST. AMBROSE 2 - Elmhurst improved to 4-5 overall with a 7-2 victory over St. Ambrose.Â
In doubles play, Kolman and Rettger downed Griffin Rasche and Alex Horton 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. The Bluejays' #2 team of Gaudio and Maglaque fell 8-6 to Sammy Carr and Mary Alice Oswalt. The Bluejays' duo of Vaselaney and Wheeler toppled Nikki Steiner and Shannon McEacheren 8-4 at No. doubles.Â
In singles play, St. Ambrose scored it's only win at No. 1 singles when Rasche upended Kolman 7-6, 6-7, 10-6. The Bluejays swept the remaining five matches with Gaudio toppling Oswalt 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Rettger dispatching Horton 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. Liewergen defeated Carr 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while Vaselaney blanked Shannon Shovlain 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Wheeler closed out No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over McEaceren.Â
Elmhurst hosts Millikin University on Monday, October 10.Â
